[Dispatch=Lee Myoungju] The film 'Intern' (directed by Kim Doyoung) topped the box office upon its release.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated movie ticket system, 'Intern' drew 61,038 moviegoers on its opening day, the 16th. The cumulative audience count stands at 82,566.

It surpassed 'Odyssey' (directed by Christopher Nolan), which has been enjoying extended box office success. 'Odyssey' has held the top spot for 43 consecutive days since its August 5th release.

For a Korean film, it reclaimed the number one spot at the box office for the first time in 50 days. Since 'Hope' (directed by Na Hong-jin) drew audiences away from 'Homicidal,' foreign films have dominated the top position.

'Intern' tells the story of a 37-year career intern joining a female CEO's company that has emerged as a dark horse in the fashion industry just three years after its launch, beginning a cross-hierarchy office drama.

It is a remake of a Hollywood film directed by Nancy Meyers. Choi Min-sik plays the role of intern Kiho. Han Sohee plays Sunoo, a third-year CEO.
