[Dispatch=Reporter Minji Gu] The film "Intern" (Director Doyoung Kim) maintained the No. 1 position at the box office on its opening week.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated movie ticketing system, "Intern" recorded 275,186 viewers over the past weekend (18-20th). The cumulative audience reached 403,906.
"Intern," a Korean film, reached the top of the box office in eight weeks. It surpassed "Odyssey" (Director Christopher Nolan), which had been enjoying a long theatrical run. It maintained the No. 1 position for 43 days.
"Intern" is a cross-rank office film. The story begins when a 37-year veteran intern joins a female CEO's company that has emerged as a dark horse in the fashion industry just three years after its launch.
It is a remake of a Hollywood film directed by Nancy Meyers. Choi Min-sik transformed into intern "Kiho." Han Sohee took on the role of Sunoo, a third-year female CEO.
The actors' chemistry garnered word of mouth. In particular, Han Sohee expressed both the confidence of a young CEO and the anxiety felt within, simultaneously. She portrayed multiple facets.
Choi Min-sik once again proved his presence. Distinctly different from the strong characters he has shown so far. He is warm and benevolent. He received praise for completing the image of a good adult.
Meanwhile, "Odyssey" came in at No. 2 at the weekend box office. On the same basis, it drew 256,793 viewers (cumulative 11,217,641). "Obsession" is in third place with 131,467 viewers (cumulative 701,713).
