[Dispatch=Yuha Reporter] Singer PSY (real name Park Jae-sang, 48) has received a summary order for a fine on charges of proxy prescription of sleeping medication.

Seoul Western District Court's Summary Order 12 Division (Judge Choi Ye-jin) issued a summary order for a fine of 5 million won to PSY on the 15th. PSY was charged with violation of the Medical Law.

A summary order is a procedure that imposes fines or administrative penalties through written review. If PSY objects, he can request a formal trial within 7 days from the date of notification of the order.

From 2022 to last year, PSY received non-face-to-face prescriptions of sleep-inducing medication at a university hospital in Seoul. A third party, such as his manager, picked up the medication on his behalf.

Under current law, sleeping medication is classified as a psychotropic drug. The principle is that it must be prescribed after an in-person consultation with a doctor. According to Article 17-2 of the Medical Law, proxy pickup is not permitted even by immediate family members unless there are exceptional circumstances such as the patient being unconscious or unable to move.

Police referred PSY and his manager, a university hospital doctor, and 3 others, totaling 6 people, to the prosecution in May. In July, the prosecution indicted PSY and the university hospital doctor by summary indictment. Four others, including the manager and medical staff, were given prosecutorial discretion.
