Shim Eun-kyung to attend 'Busan International Film Festival' as New Currents Award jury member

[Dispatch=Reporter Lee Myeong-ju] Actor Sim Eun-kyung will judge Asia's new wave of filmmaking.

The Busan International Film Festival announced the jury for the New Currents Award on the 22nd. "Sim Eun-kyung, Indian director Lima Das, and producer Shan Ju-olong have been selected," it said.

The New Currents Award is a category given to emerging directors in Asia. One work screened in the competition section or Vision section is selected, and a prize of 20 million won is awarded.

Sim Eun-kyung is a former child actor who gained attention through the films "Sunny" (2011) and "Miss Granny" (2014). She won Best Actress awards at the Chunsa Film Awards and Baeksang Arts Awards.

She has worked not only in Korea but also in Japan. She appeared in "The Journalist" (2019) and "Journey and Days" (2025). She swept the Japanese Academy and Kinema Junpo awards.

Global filmmakers will select the best emerging director. Director Lima Das and Shan Ju-olong have a history of winning at multiple award ceremonies, including the Busan International Film Festival.

Meanwhile, this year's Busan International Film Festival will be held around the Busan Cinema Center from the 6th to 15th of next month.
