"It's not about shaming a specific person"…Shim Soo-bong apologizes for targeting Kim Dahyun

[Dispatch=Lee Myeong-ju] Trot singer Sim Su-bong apologized for publicly criticizing junior artist Kim Dahyun.

Sim Su-bong posted a lengthy apology on his website on the 21st. He acknowledged, "I made a slip of the tongue on the trot festival stage with many people watching."

He continued, "There was concern and worry about music," but added, "I said something out of line at an inappropriate moment. I have nothing to say even with ten mouths."

However, he clarified that he had no intention of targeting Kim Dahyun. "I didn't know who the previous performer was. The words were not meant to shame a specific person," he said.

But contrary to his intent, he caused significant hurt. Sim Su-bong reflected, "It was clearly wrong for me as an adult to say words that wounded a junior's heart."

After his slip of the tongue became known, he conveyed his apology to Kim Dahyun's side. He also asked for forgiveness, saying, "I am truly sorry to the many participants who came to watch the performance."

The controversy arose on the 20th at the '2026 Jinan Red Ginseng Festival' held near Maisan in Jinan, Jeollabuk-do. Sim Su-bong took the stage following Kim Dahyun.

Before singing, Sim Su-bong said, "The woman who sang before made my head dizzy," and "She seems to be a young lady who doesn't even know what singing is or what life is."

He also stated, "Please don't put that player (Kim Dahyun) in front of me," and mentioned, "Singing is not something to do so carelessly," which sparked controversy.

After the festival, a video containing Sim Su-bong's remarks spread online. In particular, there were reactions that his criticism of a 54-year-old junior crossed the line.

Shortly after receiving Sim Su-bong's apology, Kim Dahyun posted on social media. She told fans, "I will take care of my heart, so don't worry. Let's meet with bright faces."
