'Moonmoo', KBS historical drama returns… "Lee Hyun-wook X Jang Hyuk, script reading"

[Dispatch=Lee Myung-joo] Actors Lee Hyun-wook and Jang Hyuk will team up in a KBS historical drama.

KBS-2TV's 'Munmu' (screenplay by Kim Ri-heon and Hong Jin-i, directed by Kim Young-jo and Koo Sung-jun) revealed the script reading on the 22nd. Lee Hyun-wook, Jang Hyuk, Kim Kang-woo, and Park Sung-woong attended.

'Munmu' is a historical drama KBS is presenting for the first time in about three years. It tells the story of leaders who stake everything on victory amid 600 years of warfare and upheaval within the three kingdoms.

The atmosphere on set was heated. With director Kim Young-jo and writers Kim Ri-heon and Hong Jin-i present, main cast members gathered. They were immersed in their respective roles.

Lee Hyun-wook played Silla King Munmu. Jang Hyuk takes on the role of Goguryeo general Yeon Gaesomun, Kim Kang-woo plays Silla strategist Kim Chun-chu, and Park Sung-woong plays Silla general Kim Yu-shin.

Also making an impact were Jung Woong-in (Kim Jin-ju role), Kim Do-hyun (Seol O-yu role), Baek Seong-hyun (Go Yeon-mu role), Yang Hyun-min (Li Shimin role), Oh Seung-hun (Kim In-mun role), and Lee Jihoon (Bidam role).

Behind-the-scenes footage was also unveiled. It contained epic-scale battles and the human struggles of leaders. The Mongolia location shooting heightened anticipation for the broadcast.

Lee Hyun-wook said, "Munmu is a great king who unified the three kingdoms. This is a major work and grand epic that has returned to KBS. We ask for your great interest and anticipation."

Jang Hyuk also said, "It could be a key point to show what choice Yeon Gaesomun made and with what emotions he had no choice but to make that choice," previewing a multidimensional character.

Director Kim Young-jo said, "I want the growing generation of Korea to understand 'What is a nation?', 'What is leadership?', and 'What is the individual within a nation?'"

Meanwhile, 'Munmu' will air in November.
