[Dispatch=Reporter Lee Myung-joo] Netflix series 'Scandal' (screenplay by Lee Seung-young and Ahn Hye-song, directed by Jiwoo) ranked 7th in its opening week.

According to the latest Tudum data (Sept. 14-20), 'Scandal' climbed to 7th place on the Global Top 10 Non-English Shows with 1.9 million views (views divided by runtime).

It entered the top 10 in a total of 10 countries/regions. In addition to South Korea, which recorded 1st place, it ranked in Hong Kong, Indonesia, the Philippines, Qatar, Vietnam, and Thailand.

The performance is somewhat disappointing compared to the reputation of the lead cast. 'Scandal' is a work featuring actors Son Ye-jin, Ji Chang-wook, and Nana, and garnered attention from the planning stage.

However, negative reviews poured in from the beginning of its release, distancing it from the interest of global subscribers. In particular, sluggish pacing and miscast controversy negatively impacted its commercial performance.

On the other hand, there are opinions that stood out for a deeper approach beyond the 'love bet' in the original novel. It was evaluated as meaningful in its portrayal of women's narratives within a strict Confucian society.

Meanwhile, 'Scandal' tells the story of Jo Ssi Buin, a woman of outstanding talent, and Jo Won, Joseon's greatest romantic, engaging in a dangerous love bet over widow Hee-yeon.
