[Dispatch=Yuha Reporter] BTS took home the "Song of the Year" trophy at the American 'MTV Video Music Awards'. The group returned to the same category for the first time in five years and claimed the top prize.

The '2026 MTV Video Music Awards' (2026 MTV VMA) was held on the 28th (Korean time) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, USA.

BTS was named the recipient of "Song of the Year," the award considered the highest honor of the ceremony. The group won the trophy with "SWIM," the title track from their regular fifth album 'ARIRANG'.

BTS said through their agency, "We sincerely thank ARMY for the unchanging love and support you always send us. 'ARIRANG' is an album that feels especially meaningful as it represents a new beginning for us."

The group continued, "We were able to receive the great award of 'Song of the Year' thanks to everyone who loves our music. We will continue to show good music and performances together as seven members."

BTS defeated prominent competitors. Netflix's 'K-pop Demon Hunters' OST "Golden," Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter's "Bring Your Love," Pinkpantheress and Zara Larsson's "Stateside," and Rei's "Where Is My Husband!" were among those competing.

A K-pop artist has dominated the category for two consecutive years. 'BLACKPINK' Rosé won the "Song of the Year" award last year with "APT.," marking the first K-pop artist to receive the honor. BTS has now continued that record.

In 2021, BTS was nominated in the category for the first time as a Korean artist with "Dynamite." The group did not win at that time. Five years later, BTS has become the winner of this category.

Meanwhile, BTS won three awards at the '2026 MTV VMA'. The group took home "Song of the Year," "Best Group," and "Best K-Pop."
