[Dispatch=Yuha Reporter] BTS took home the "Song of the Year" trophy at the American 'MTV Video Music Awards'. The group returned to the category for the first time in five years and reached the top.

The '2026 MTV Video Music Awards' (hereinafter '2026 MTV VMA') took place on the 28th (Korean time) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, USA.

BTS was announced as the winner of 'Song of the Year', the award considered the night's top honor. The group won the trophy with 'SWIM', the title track from their regular 5th album 'ARIRANG'.

Through their agency, BTS stated, "We sincerely thank ARMY for the unchanging love and support you continue to give us. 'ARIRANG' is all the more meaningful as it is like a new beginning for us."

The group added, "We were able to receive such a great award as 'Song of the Year' thanks to everyone who loves our music. Going forward, the seven of us will continue to show you good music and performances."

BTS prevailed over strong contenders. Netflix 'K-pop Demon Hunters' OST 'Golden', Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter's 'Bring Your Love', Pinkpantheress and Zara Larsson's 'Stateside', and Rei's 'Where Is My Husband!' competed in the category.

A K-pop artist has dominated the category for two consecutive years. BLACKPINK's Rosé won 'Song of the Year' last year with 'APT.', marking the first K-pop artist to win the award. BTS has inherited that record.

BTS was nominated for 'Song of the Year' in 2021 with 'Dynamite', becoming the first Korean artist to be nominated in the category. At the time, the group did not win. Five years later, BTS became the winner of the category.

Meanwhile, BTS won three awards at the '2026 MTV VMA'. In addition to 'Song of the Year', the group won 'Best Group' and 'Best K-Pop'.
