[Dispatch=Lee Myeong-ju Reporter] The production team of the film "Assassin(s)" (directed by Hur Jin-ho) has drawn a line regarding allegations of historical distortion.

The production team released an official statement on the 28th. "It is a narrative film reconstructed by adding cinematic imagination to a historical event that occurred in 1974," they explained.

Given that actual events and figures appear in the film, they examined it from various angles. The production team added, "We conducted a wide-ranging investigation of publicly disclosed records, materials, books, documentaries, and more."

Regarding claims of historical distortion raised in some quarters, they clarified, "The film was not made to confirm a particular conclusion or to deny or distort existing facts."

They further stated, "The film does not designate any specific individual as the mastermind behind the incident. We do not present hypotheses and dramatic settings within the film as historical facts."

The production team also said, "There can be various interpretations and criticisms," but emphasized, "The film was not made with the intention of political purpose beyond the work's inherent character."

"Assassin(s)" is a work based on the fatal shooting of Yuk Young-soo on August 15, 1974, at the Seoul National Theater for the Performing Arts (currently the National Theater Haeoreum Theater).

It depicts the process of a detective, a social affairs editor at a newspaper, and a new reporter pursuing the truth and the mastermind behind the incident. In this process, multiple hypotheses are raised, which has brought backlash from the opposition.
