[Dispatch=Lee Myung-joo] The production side of the film 'Assassin(s)' (director Hur Jin-ho) has drawn a line on allegations of historical distortion.

Hybe Media Corp released a statement on the 28th saying, "It is a fiction film reconstructed by adding cinematic imagination to a historical event that occurred in 1974."

As actual events and figures appear in the film, the production examined it from multiple angles. The production company added, "We conducted extensive research into publicly available records, materials, books, documentaries, and more."

Regarding allegations of historical distortion raised in some quarters, the company explained, "The film was not produced to confirm a specific conclusion or to deny or distort existing facts."

It further stated, "The film does not designate any specific individual as the mastermind behind the incident at any point. It does not present hypotheses and dramatic settings in the film as historical fact."

The production company also said, "There can be various interpretations and criticisms," while emphasizing that "the film was not produced with political intent beyond the work's inherent nature."

'Assassin(s)' is based on the fatal shooting of Mrs. Yuk Young-soo at the National Theater of Korea (currently the National Theater Haeorum Theater) in Seoul on August 15, 1974.

The film depicts a detective, a social affairs section chief of a newspaper, and a new reporter pursuing the truth and mastermind behind the incident. In this process, several hypotheses are raised, which drew opposition from opposition parties.
