[Dispatch=Lee Ajin Reporter] Actor You Hae-jin has canceled all his Busan schedules. He will not attend the Busan International Film Festival, nor will he participate in the Buil Film Awards ceremony.
The Buil Film Awards stated in a phone call with Dispatch on the 6th, "You Hae-jin will not attend this year's awards ceremony itself."
You Hae-jin was nominated for Best Actor at the 35th Buil Film Awards for the film "A Man Living with the King" (directed by Jang Hang-jun). He competes with Gu Gyo-hwan, Lee Byung-hun, Park Ji-hun, and Cho In-sung.
However, it appears he decided not to participate in the awards ceremony as the recent film "Assassin(s)" has been embroiled in historical distortion controversy. He had previously decided not to attend the Busan International Film Festival schedule.
"Assassin(s)" is a work by director Huh Jin-ho. It is motivated by the 1974 shooting of the late Mrs. Yuk Young-soo. The story depicts Detective Park Chul-gu (played by You Hae-jin) and others digging into suspicions surrounding the incident and possible masterminds.
Shortly after its release, it became embroiled in historical distortion controversy. The issue was that the film implied a conclusion different from the government's official announcement that the late Mrs. Yuk Young-soo died from Moon Se-gwang's shooting.
Star rating terrorism and cognitive attacks on the actors followed. On the 4th, some conservative-leaning organizations held a rally in front of a location known to be You Hae-jin's residence. They demanded the film's screening be halted and an apology be made.
You Hae-jin's agency stated on the 5th, "We are taking seriously acts of spreading false information, personal attacks, invasion of privacy, and threats to personal safety. We plan to take all possible measures against illegal acts."
Meanwhile, the 35th Buil Film Awards will be held on the 7th at Signiel Busan in Haeundae, Busan.
