[Dispatch=Lee Ah-jin Reporter] "We will all never forget this moment. Right?" (Charlie Puth)
Charlie Puth returned to Korea for the first time in two years. It marks his fifth concert since his first visit to Korea in 2016. With each reunion, the scale of performances grew larger, and the love from audiences deepened.
At his first visit to Korea, he performed with 2,000 audience members. Now, 10 years later, he took the stage at a domestic stadium for the first time. In a single day, he connected with 38,000 people.
Charlie Puth filled 100 minutes with his sweet voice and brilliant performances. The audience sometimes enthusiastically and sometimes quietly savored the music. Each person became absorbed in the concert in their own way.
It was a performance made purely of music, without flashy VCRs or long talks. The cool autumn breeze added to the romance. Music, people, and the season blended perfectly, painting the autumn night even more beautifully.
Charlie Puth held the world tour "Whatever's Clever!" at the Goyang Sports Complex Main Stadium on the 11th. Dispatch was present at the venue.
◆ "Seoul City, How Are You?"
The harmony of a three-part chorus echoed. The rich harmony instantly captivated the audience's ears. Charlie Puth then appeared. He opened the concert with a melody fitting for a cool autumn night.
The first song was "Beat Yourself Up." Charlie Puth performed live while playing the piano himself. In the middle, he greeted in Korean, saying "hello." He snapped his fingers and kept the rhythm leisurely.
He shifted the mood with "How Long." A heavy guitar sound resonated through the venue. At the rhythmic performance, cheers erupted from the audience. Charlie Puth highlighted the song's charm with his soft falsetto.
From the opening, the audience sang along. Charlie Puth couldn't hide his excitement either. He tapped the keys with a bright expression. Sometimes he closed his eyes and immersed himself in the performance. With brilliant playing, he raised the energy from the start.
Charlie Puth looked at the audience filling the seats and marveled, "That's truly an amazing sight." He continued, "I have more people with me tonight than when I first came to Korea. I'm very moved."
He also revealed his affection for Korea. He emphasized, "Korea is like my hometown." He then presented "Home" and "Cry" back-to-back, offering emotional songs.
◆ Dangerously
"Charlie Puth, we love you!"
Before the next stage, a love confession burst from the audience. Charlie Puth responded, "I love you too." The affection exchanged with fans carried through to the next performance as well.
"Dangerously" is originally a song about fatal love. But this time it was reinterpreted sweetly into a sweet love song. Charlie Puth started the song with playful gestures and cute expressions.
He didn't forget fan service. After finishing the stage, he blew kisses to both sides of the audience. Then he walked out onto the protruding stage. Standing face-to-face with the chorus members, he layered harmonies.
"One Call Away" erupted with audience singing from the very first verse. The audience turned on their phone lights and sang along. Countless lights adorned the seats. The venue instantly became like a scene from a movie.
Charlie Puth deepened the atmosphere with dreamy keyboard playing. The audience, as if by agreement, all held their breath. Those who had been singing along moments before focused on the performance.
He then presented "Done for Me" and "Marvin Gaye." The audience clapped to the rhythm and sang at the top of their lungs. Charlie Puth laughed, saying, "It's really amazing to perform with 38,000 backup singers."
◆ Romantic Harmony
A parade of hit songs followed. "Left And Right" featured Jungkook of BTS. It is one of Charlie Puth's representative songs that has also received great love domestically.
Usually, when hit songs play at concerts, the audience sings along. But this moment was different. The audience listened intently to Charlie Puth's voice, as if not wanting to miss a single moment of his sweet tone.
Charlie Puth also gave his all. As if trying to deliver his voice to the end of the third-floor seats, he produced a refreshing high note. At his unwavering live performance, admiration flowed from various parts of the audience.
After finishing the stage, Charlie Puth said, "I want to give special thanks to Jungkook" and announced, "I've prepared another special song." Then the intro to "We Don't Talk Anymore" played.
A surprise guest appeared. Nayeon of TWICE took over Selena Gomez's featuring part. With Charlie Puth's soft tone combined with Nayeon's sweet voice, it showed a unique charm.
The unexpected duet stirred the audience once again. Charlie Puth praised Nayeon, saying, "Korea seems to have so many talented singers." He then continued the excitement by singing "BOY" and "Cheating on You" back-to-back.
◆ See You Again
"Let's take it home together!" (Let's Take It Home)
Just the guitar intro stirred the audience. As "Attention" began to play, ear-piercing cheers poured out. Charlie Puth released his energy to match the powerful sound. The concert reached its climax.
Even after the song ended, applause did not stop. When Charlie Puth looked at the audience, louder cheers returned. He was momentarily at a loss for words. His eyes reddened as he couldn't hide his overwhelming emotions.
Next, a lyrical piano melody flowed. It was "See You Again." As the familiar intro began, gasps of delight escaped from various parts of the venue. The audience held their breath and listened intently to the melody.
He also presented a special version rewritten just for Korean fans. He sang, "And I'll tell you all about it when I see you Korea again." With lyrics promising a reunion, he left a deep impression.
The final song was "Changes." Charlie Puth removed his earpiece and listened to the audience's singing. In the standing area, some audience members even did a circle dance. Until the very end, both Charlie Puth and the audience poured out all their remaining energy and savored the concert.
Charlie Puth blew kisses to both sides of the audience and greeted them. The audience reciprocated with kisses. However, the lingering feeling did not fade easily. Even after the song stopped and all the lights in the venue turned on, the audience continued to cheer.
