[Dispatch=Lee Myung-joo] The film 'Expulsion from Paradise' (Director Yeon Sang-ho) has recouped its production budget through overseas sales revenue alone.

Distributor CJ ENM announced on the 19th that "'Expulsion from Paradise' has been sold to 118 countries worldwide" and "(through overseas sales revenue alone) has exceeded the production budget."

Recouping production budget before release is unusual. 'Expulsion from Paradise' garnered attention as a low-budget film marking Director Yeon Sang-ho's second work following 'The Face'.

The film received invitations to domestic and international film festivals, building anticipation among cinephiles. The work was invited to the Special Presentation section of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival.

It also met audiences through the Gala Presentation section of the recently concluded 31st Busan International Film Festival. The screening recorded a full house on its fourth showing.

The film also received an invitation to the 'Korean Cinema Special' section of the 46th Hawaii International Film Festival, which opens on the 21st. It will be screened locally on the 1st and 4th of next month.

An official explained that "the story, which unfolds the universal emotions of family and motherhood in 'Expulsion from Paradise,' has resonated with audiences beyond nationality and culture."

Meanwhile, 'Expulsion from Paradise' is set for theatrical release on the 21st.
