[Dispatch=Yuha Reporter] Global music streaming platform Spotify has excluded over 50 million AI-generated songs from its recommendation lists.
Spotify posted a notice regarding AI content on its website on the 20th. "We've removed over 50 million AI-generated 'slop' (low-quality content) from our platform. These songs have no place in your recommendations," it stated.
Spotify explained that the tracks repeatedly violated platform regulations. It blocked cases of duplicating existing creators' content or artificially producing media.
AI-generated content is a major challenge for streaming services like Spotify. The platform must identify and filter out cases of impersonation or deception among tens of millions of songs.
Spotify received help from listeners in this process. The company analyzed patterns of songs frequently skipped by users over the past six months. Those tracks consistently overlapped with AI-generated audio known as 'slop.'
Spotify combined listener feedback with metadata and external AI detection tools. Based on this, it updated its recommendation system to reduce exposure. This subsequently led to a noticeable decrease in listener concerns.
However, not all creators are producing 'slop.' Spotify introduced an 'AI Credit' feature in April. This feature allows artists to disclose which parts of a song used AI. Tens of thousands of submissions are currently being registered daily.
Artist profiles determined to be AI-generated receive an 'AI Persona' badge. These artists are generally excluded from user recommendation lists. They are recommended only to listeners who directly follow them.
Spotify stated, "AI is developing rapidly. Malicious users are adapting just as quickly," while emphasizing, "As music becomes increasingly flooded with AI, listeners will come to cherish human artistry even more."
