[Dispatch=Yuha Nulgi Reporter] Will actress Jeon Do-yeon capture the Oscars following her Cannes success?
U.S. media outlet 'Hollywood Reporter' named Jeon Do-yeon from the film 'Possible Love' (directed by Lee Chang-dong) as a frontrunner for Best Actress at the 99th Academy Awards on the 26th (Korean time).
The outlet praised Jeon Do-yeon's acting. "Cheerful yet curious. Even in the most joyful moments, it cuts to the heart," it said.
Jeon Do-yeon played Mi-ok, the wife of a laid-off worker, in 'Possible Love.' 'Hollywood Reporter' said, "It is hard to imagine another actress playing Mi-ok."
Local media attention continues. U.S. 'LA Times' evaluated Jeon Do-yeon as a representative acting actress. 'Indiewire' also listed her among notable Best Actress contenders to watch.
Jeon Do-yeon has already received recognition for her acting on the world stage. She won the Best Actress award at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2007 for 'Secret Sunshine' (directed by Lee Chang-dong).
The film is also in the Oscar race. 'Possible Love' was selected as Korea's submission for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film in August.
The 99th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 15 next year at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
