[Dispatch=Jeong Tae-yoon] Three works that actor Byeon Woo-seok supported in production have been selected as opening films for this year's Seoul Independent Film Festival.
The 52nd Seoul Independent Film Festival announced three opening films on the 2nd. Three works—"Being Human" (Director Park Jung-bin), "Didimbal" (Director Heo Ji-yoon), and "Nowhere" (Director Lee Ju-yong)—from the "SIFF X Byeon Woo-seok: Shorts on 2025" production support project were selected.
"SIFF X Byeon Woo-seok: Shorts on 2025" is a project that provided independent filmmakers with practical opportunities to plan and produce their works. Byeon Woo-seok joined hands with independent filmmakers to build the foundation of future Korean cinema together.
This project expanded the virtuous cycle from production to screening of independent films and created an opportunity to connect actors, creators, and audiences through film. The three works supported by Byeon Woo-seok will have their world premiere screenings as opening films.
All the films start from the theme of "love," but each captures the reality and emotions of contemporary youth from different perspectives. Through these opening films, the Seoul Independent Film Festival aims to share the diverse stories and cinematic possibilities captured by independent filmmakers with audiences.
"Being Human" depicts a story that unfolds when Jin-ju, an airport guide facing unemployment after being replaced by machines, discovers her husband's suspicious traces along with news of her pregnancy. Through the image of a couple facing unstable lives in a society that prioritizes efficiency, it conveys the meaning of love and comfort for each other.
"Didimbal" is a work depicting the first love of So-wan, a girl who can stop time. The superpower that was used to gaze at the face of the person she likes enters a new phase through special lessons with Woo-seok, a futsal team coach. With ingenious imagination that combines SF, fantasy, romance, and sports, it portrays moments of love and growth.
"Nowhere" follows Young-woo, a quick delivery driver, and Eun-yeong, a toll gate cashier, through a day on December 31st as a long-time couple. Through the promises and conversations of two people who miss each other as the new year approaches amid arduous labor and unstable reality, it conveys the solitary daily lives of those living through an urban winter and the lingering echo of quiet love.
Following the opening film screenings, "Being Human" and "Didimbal" will meet audiences in the Festival Choice Short Film Showcase section, and "Nowhere" will be featured in the Main Competition Short Film section.
Meanwhile, the Seoul Independent Film Festival will hold an official press conference on the 4th. It will run for 10 days from the 25th to the 4th of next month at CGV Apgujeong and CGV Cheongdam Cine City.
