'Hope' opens officially in France... Sets opening record for Korean films this year

[Dispatch=Lee Myeong-ju Reporter] The film "Hope" (directed by Na Hong-jin) has captivated French cinephiles.

According to production company Posed Films, "Hope" officially opened in France on the 29th of last month (Korean time). It reached audiences with a total of 192 screens.

It recorded the highest opening score among Korean films that opened in France this year. On its opening day alone, it earned approximately $800,000 (approximately 1.074 billion won).

In particular, it ranked 2nd at the Paris box office during its opening weekend (as of the 1st). It demonstrated strong performance in the key market that accounts for 31% of France's total box office revenue.

The momentum of "Hope" extended beyond France to Belgium. It opened on 38 screens in Belgium and recorded approximately $64,000 (approximately 86.05 million won) in revenue.

This figure far exceeds the opening performance recorded when director Park Chan-wook's "Decision to Leave" (2022) and "Burning" (2018) directed by Lee Chang-dong opened in Belgium.

An official predicted that "Hope" will once again prove the hot interest that has continued globally since its premiere at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival."

Meanwhile, "Hope" is a story that begins when the head of the Hopohang branch office hears news of a tiger's appearance and encounters an unbelievable reality.
