[Dispatch=Lee Myeong-ju Reporter] Rapper Kim Sim-ya has been selected as the artist of November.
Kakao Entertainment announced on the 5th, "Kim Sim-ya has been selected as the artist of the month for Melon's independent music activation project 'Track Zero.'"
Kim Sim-ya debuted in 2016 through the duo 'XXX' with producer Frank. She released the regular first album 'Dok' and the mini album 'w18c'.
She recently made a comeback with her regular second album 'Dogma'. It is a regular album released approximately 6 years after 'Dok'. It is characterized by a refined electronic sound.
'Dogma' began with a European song camp. Kim Sim-ya recalled, "I felt that it wouldn't work with just the songs I brought to Korea."
She continued, "Every time I thought about how to enhance the completeness, it felt like I was sending an SOS to the sound supply service," sharing the background of her collaboration.
The part she focused on most was 'coordinating opinions'. She said, "I had no doubt about their skills," and "I had the experience as someone who looks at the direction."
Her attitude toward lyrics was also distinctive. Kim Sim-ya confessed, "I started knowing that 16 bars wouldn't be fully put on the song."
She intentionally left space throughout despite it being a rap album. "I told the producers, 'You can deconstruct and decompose this verse if you want,'" she explained.
She also mentioned the 6 years it took for the new album to come out. She said, "One of my goals was to eliminate anger. I kept studying control methods."
She also expressed her feelings about becoming a position of inspiration in the hip-hop scene. Kim Sim-ya said, "I thought that even as I age, I would be someone ahead."
She continued, "It's sad, but it's an inevitable growth as a human," and said, "I've come to feel music as a profession, which rather makes me feel free."
Meanwhile, Melon's 'Track Zero' is a project started to activate independent music. It announces the artist of the month every month.
